The security agencies are in the news again for detaining an official of the Audit service beyond the constitutional period of 48 hours. Appiah Kubi, paymaster at the Audit Service headquarters in Accra was arrested on Sunday at the Airport on arrival from an official assignment.

He is currently at the Police headquarters in Accra. Joy FM has learnt that he and other staff of the service were commissioned to audit some missions abroad and had just disembarked from the plane when he was arrested.

His family and some staff of the service are protesting against his continued detention. Sources told Joy FM that Appiah Kubi’s arrest follows the completion of an audit into his work at the headquarters.

But his colleagues say contrary to accepted practice, he has not had the opportunity to respond to whatever issues that were raised in the audit report. Acting Auditor General, Edward Dua-Agyeman has confirmed the continued detention of the paymaster, but will not discuss the reasons.

The audit of the foreign missions was approved by the office of the President and some staff of the audit service say Mr. Kubi must first present his report and also respond to the allegations against him. Some are reading meanings into the timing of his arrest and detention.
