The Free Press writes that a reported warning shot fired by the bodyguard of the BNI director apparently to ease traffic jam caused by a road block mounted by workers on the Adomi bridge at Atimpoku, has resulted in one of the workers being rushed to the hospital with serious chest wounds.

The incident is said to have occurred on the 6th of October 2000, when the BNI director, Mr. Yaw Donkor, was traveling with his 30-year-old bodyguard, Bernet Yeboah from Accra across the Adomi Bridge.

According to the police at Koforidua, one Karimu Sulemana, driver of a Toyota bus refused to oblige when he was signaled to stop by a worker of Wusuya Construction Company Ltd, which is currently undertaking some renovation work on the bridge.

This created traffic jam and pandemonium broke out during which Yeboah came out, apparently to ensure order. He allegedly fired two warning shot of which one hit Ibrahm Okine, 42 one of the workers of the company. He was transferred to Korle -Bu from Akosombo Hospital that same day. According to the paper, he has since been admitted at the Cardiothoracic Unit of the hospital, where he is said to be responding to treatment.

The suspect was arrested and put in police custody at Akosombo and later sent to Koforidua police station where he was granted enquiry bail last Sunday.
