Leader and Founder of the United Renaissance Party (URP), Charles Kofi Wayo has lashed out at the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) suggesting that they are ‘not well trained’.
According to him, if they (BNI) were well trained, they would have arrested Mr. Yaw Osafo Maafo, a former Finance Minister under ex-President Kufuor’s government for causing financial loss to the state and ‘turning round to accuse the Mahama led administration of putting the economy in a bad shape’.
The NPP led by Mr. Osafo Maafo last week referred to Ghana’s economy under the Mahama administration as being in "tatters", largely due to “the huge public debt; the lamentable fiscal deficit, the humongous arrears, unbridled overspending, worsening unemployment, deteriorating utility services and failing social services.”
Kofi Wayo, speaking to the issue, told Peace FM news that Osafo Maafo had no moral right to accuse the Mahama led administration because he was the cause of ‘the tattered economy’ during his term as the Finance Minister.
He further tongue-lashed Osafo Maafo describing him as a ‘fool’, though he was later made to retract that offensive description, but failed to apologise.
“Do you remember the CNTCI loan that Osafo Maafo made a lot of noise about that later turned to be a scam? If Osafo Maafo were to be in America, he would not be able to talk; he would have been arrested but in Ghana the situation is different. The BNI operatives in Ghana are not well trained so they do not jump into the cases the way they should. So much corruption has gone on and nobody investigates because everybody knows nothing will come out of that investigation; people go scot free…” he intimated.
He, however, urged government to help in equipping and training the BNI and other security operatives, so that they can react on their own without any prodding from government.
