The National Organiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has charged the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to invite the National Organiser of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Yaw Boateng Gyan for questioning.
Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan is alleged to have indicated that late President John Evans Atta Mills did not die a natural death and that if he is pushed to the wall, he will disclose those involved in the death of the late Professor.
Speaking in an interview on HELLO FM, a sister station of PEACE FM, Yaw Boateng Gyan allegedly said: “I hear my opponent has been going round with a certain tape about my alleged involvement in the World Cup in Brazil. I am not worried, but people should know that there are so many tapes that we can also play. Let's not forget how someone said he would make sure the late President Mills did not run the second term; in his case not only did President Mills not run for the second term but he (President Mills) can't be found today amongst the living and these are the people we are dealing with".
This statement has raised lots of controversies in the political arena with some calling on the various security agencies in the country to invite him for questioning.
But speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview, Yaw Boateng Gyan denied making those claims. According to him, the media had misconstrued him and that if indeed he had such tape in his possession, “I would have disclosed it long ago, looking at how close I was to the former President”
Speaking to the issue during a panel discussion on Peace FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, John Boadu dared the BNI to invite Yaw Boateng Gyan for questioning if they are truly an independent body.
“If they are national security and not government security… they must invite him for questioning…this matter affects the entire country. Ghanaians have been taken for granted…the whole state was thrown into a state of mourning…this is a dangerous matter…this touches the security of our nation, it touches our democracy. It is a major matter” he said.
John Boadu also expressed surprise that those who claim to love the late Professor Mills have all kept quiet when this issue came up saying: “the very people who say they love Atta Mills, are all mute on hearing that there is a tape on how he died…fair weather friends”
