Oil Theft • 4 BOST Thieving Staffs Busted While Stealing of 27,000 Litres Oil

Luck eluded four criminally-inclined staffs of the Buck Oil Storage Tank (BOST) depot at Kpone when they tried to run away with two tanker trucks loaded with over 27,000 litres of silop oil.

The four crooks were nabbed, thanks to what others have claimed is the handiwork of the Almighty God and other gods who have been overseeing Ghana’s kitty. The staffs in question are at the top level of BOST’s operational works. They are Mr. Ekwow Biney, P.P. Yorke, Bernard Owusu and Sackey.

Ghana Daily investigations point to the fact that the four staffs blatantly ignored superior orders to release only 4,500 litres of silop oil, a mixture of various oils for industry use only, to Belshaw Company Ltd.

Belshaw last year finalized a transaction with BOST to lift 45,000 litres of oil. It was able to initially lift 40,500 litres in 2010, remaining 4,500 litres.

When Belshaw put in a request two weeks ago to the Accra Plains depot Manager of BOST Mr. Van Goh to lift the remaining 4,500 litres, the four officers saw it as an opportunity to outwit management and steal money into their pockets. This paper’s checks revealed that the four officers went to hire two trucks, each with a loading capacity of 13,500 litres.

True to their plans, the four conspiratorial ham actors against the state brought in Mercedes Benz with registration number GR 45 V and Man Diesel truck with registration number GT 6136 Q to the yard on 6th May, 2011 and loaded them to the brim.

They were just few inches out of the yard when they were busted. The trucks have since been impounded and packed at the back of the BOST’s Kpone depot. Sources say the four officials were granted a police enquiry bail for investigations to continue.

Had the crooks succeeded in moving the tankers out without notice, they would have been richer 22,500 litres worth over ¢300 million cedis.
