Berekum Chelsea have confirmed the tragic death of forward Dominic Frimpong following a violent armed robbery attack on the club’s team bus on Sunday evening April 12, 2026.

The incident occurred as the team were returning to Berekum after their Ghana Premier League Matchday 29 fixture against FC Samartex at DUN’s Park, a match they lost 1-0.

According to the club, the team bus was ambushed on the Bibiani-Goaso road near Ahyiresu, where armed men reportedly blocked the highway, forcing players and officials to abandon the vehicle and flee into nearby bushes for safety.

During the chaos, several members of the team sustained injuries.

Frimpong, 20, was said to have suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The Ghana Police Service has since launched a manhunt for the attackers, who are currently on the run, while efforts are underway to locate missing players and officials who scattered during the assault.

Frimpong had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January, a move set to run until the end of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season. He had scored two goals in 13 appearances before his untimely death.
