Kuntanase (Ash), Aug 31, GNA- The Building and Road Research Institute (BRRI) in conjunction with some district assemblies are to campaign for the use of bricks for construction of projects. The Institute would also sensitise people on market avenues for brick products in some communities throughout the country.

Mr Baiden Amissah, Project Co-ordinator of BRRI, said this at the handing over ceremony of two semi-detached bungalows built by the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District Assembly at Kuntanase on Tuesday.

He said the two bungalows cost 225 million cedis using bricks instead of 300 million cedis if cement blocks had been used.

Mr Kwaku Amoah-Mensah, Director of BRRI, said in order to reduce the cost of building, the institute was in league with the District Assemblies to identify clay suitable for brick production in the area.

This, he said would involve clay winning, processing, brick moulding, drying and firing techniques.

Mr Asante Baffoe, Deputy District Co-ordinating Director who deputised for the District Chief Executive, said the district had large deposits of clay and mentioned Apinkra, Kuntanase and Nnuaso as communities with large deposits of clay.

He said plans were far advanced with the BRRI to train the youth in the district in clay production, marketing and how to finance the projects.
