Baah Wiredu leaves for AFM meeting

Accra, Nov. 21 GNA - Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning left Accra on Sunday for Tunis to attend a meeting of African Finance Ministers (AFM).

The meeting, which opens on November 22 is to provide the opportunities to the AFM to review the way forward on the initiative emanating from the G-8 summit held in Scotland in July. It is being organised by the African Union Commission, NEPAD Secretariat and the Economic Commission for Africa.

The meeting is expected to appraise more fully the condition for eligibility for debt relief, its implementation as well as implication for future debt management and financing requirement. The meeting would also review how to spearhead the discussion with donor partners on the specifics of what needs to be done to ensure effective delivery of the package from the G-8.

The AFM would also discuss the status of cross-border projects outlined in the NEPAD short- term and long-term action plans for regional infrastructural development.

They would also discuss multilateral trade negotiations prior to the Council of Ministers meeting of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Hong Kong as well as the impact of increasing world oil prices on African economies.
