Koforidua, Feb.10, GNA – The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has stated that Mr Mohammed Baba Jamal, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Akwatia, does not pose a threat to the NPP in the constituency.
This was contained in statement issued in Koforidua on Friday and signed by Alhaji Omar Bodinga, Regional Vice-Chairman of the NPP and copied to the GNA.
The statement was reacting to a publication in a national daily where Mr Baba Jamal confidently said he was poised to capture the Akwatia seat from the NPP.
The statement noted that there was no way Mr Baba Jamal could become a Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia as the NPP was solid on the ground and would retain the Akwatia seat for the fifth conservative time.
The statement therefore urged NPP supporters and sympathizers in the area to continue to work hard and remain vigilant in the forth- coming biometric registration exercise in order to prevent unauthorized people from taking part in the exercise.
It said considering the performance of the NPP Government in the area during its eight- year rule, as against the abysmal performance of the NDC government, there was no way Mr Baba Jamal and the NDC could even increase their votes, let alone wining the seat.
The statement urged all party supporters within the constituency to close their ranks and rally behind the Parliamentary candidate, Dr Kofi Asare, to retain the seat adding that the rejection of Mr Baba Jamal since 1996 was a clear testimony that he would be defeated again in this year’s polls.
It urged the constituents to turn up in their numbers to register and earn the right to vote for the NPP in this year’s general elections.
