Residents of Pokuase-Mayera in the Ga West Municipal Assembly on Tuesday, 13 August 2019 prevented the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Clemence Wilkinson from entering the makeshift studios of Accra100.5FM to explain why the government has not been able to fix the deplorable roads in the area.
During an Out-Broadcasting event by the station’s Ghana Yensom team in Pokuase, the angry residents, who were coincidentally demonstrating against the government over the bad roads, prevented the MCE from joining the live discussion.
The MCE, had earlier in the day, spoken to the host of the programme Kwabena Prah Jnr (The Don) via telephone on the issue on the same show but felt he could not explain himself enough, therefore, he decided to drive into Accra100.5FM’s OB studio to offer further explanation but was prevented by the crowd.
Mr Richard Appiah Sarpong, the lead producer of the show reported that it took the timely intervention of the Ghana Police Service to diffuse tensions in the area.
Appiah Sarpong said Mr Wilkinson was prevented from stepping out of his car in spite of the presence of the police, therefore, he could not have access to the studio.
According to the residents, the roads are unmotorable.
They say successive governments have failed to fix the Pokuase-Afiaman-Abensu-Mayera-Adusah roads despite the numerous promises.
Some of their placards read: “No roads no votes in 2020.”
