Former Brong-Ahafo regional minister and incumbent Sunyani West MP, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, has been reelected by popular acclamation as the NPP candidate for Sunyani West constituency for the 2012 parliamentary election.

In 2008, Baffour Awuah was elected unopposed when his opponents graciously stepped down for him.

Saturday’s acclamation was supervised by the Electoral Commission and saw many party gurus including former MP for Sunyani West and minister for Local Government, Hon. Kwadwo Adjei Darko in attendance. The acclamation once again deepened the Sunyani West tradition which has seen all the NPP’s parliamentary candidates since 1992 going unopposed at the primaries in the constituency.

Moments after his confirmamtion, Hon. Baffour Awuah thanked the delegates and the constituency executives for the support given so far and pledged to continue living up to expectation.

The former minister charged supporters of the NPP to extend the same support given him to the flagbearer of the party, Nana Akufo Addo since according to him, it is only when the NPP comes back to power that Ghanaians would experience better lives. He therefore urged supporters of the party to step up the campaign to bring back the NPP to power in 2012.

Hon. Baffour Awuah recalled all projects under president Kuffour and condemned the NDC for capturing all NPP projects as theirs in a calendar recently published. “The NDC has shamelessly captured projects done by the Kuffour administration in a calendar, but let me remind them that Ghanaians are discerning enough and would vote them out in 2012 for non performance”, he said. Hon Baffour Awuah pointed out that from hamlet to hamlet, village to village, town to town, region to region, the NPP would beat the NDC hands down when it comes to which of the two parties is credited with the most projects. The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to party members and executives who have over the years made immense contributions to the success of the party in the constituency.

Hon. Baffour Awuah, who funded the awards, commended the recipients for their dedication and service to the party and asked other members to be steadfast in what they do for the party because one day their efforts would equally be rewarded. The awards included 21 coulour TV sets, laptops and citation for Hon. Kwadwo Adjei Darko, whose contributions to the party remains unequalled in the constituency. Hon. Adjei Darko called for vigilance during the 2012 general elections and charged members of the party to avoid chasing money and rather guard the ballot box which would eventually decide who rules the country.

The former legislator urged the party members to exhibit courage in all they do till the general elections are over and chanted, “fire for fire, bumper to bumper and all die be die”, sending the gathering into frenzy.

The Brong-Ahafo regional Coordinator of the All Die Be Die Fun Club, Kwame Bafoe, alias Abronye DC, charged supporters of the party to constantly propagate the truth whenever the NDC embarks of deceit and lies. He asked the constituency to once again deliver the votes for the NPP to ensure that the party comes back to power in 2012.
