The Speaker of Parliament, Alban S K Bagbin, has appealed for calm as tensions rise in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District.

In a Facebook post on Friday, August 29, 2025, Bagbin urged residents to remain composed despite reports of gunfire and mass displacements in parts of the district.

“To my fellow citizens of Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, in the light of the ongoing conflict, I urge everyone to remain calm and composed,” he stated.

He described the situation as deeply concerning, noting that the district has long been respected for its harmony and peace.

He stressed the importance of preserving this reputation by prioritising peace, stability, and unity.

The Speaker also commended youth groups for issuing statements that cautioned against inflammatory rhetoric and called for constructive dialogue.

He encouraged traditional leaders and community influencers to collaborate genuinely with security agencies to restore order.

“It is crucial that we exercise restraint and work together to ensure Sawla-Tuna-Kalba remains a safe haven for its residents,” he indicated.
