Bagbin’s exit will cause a big gap in parliament – Kyei Mensah

Majority Leader and New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker for Suame Constituency, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has described the decision by colleague National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker for Nadowli /Kaleo, Alban Kingsford Sumani Bagbin not to seek reelection as a great gap that will affect the legislature.

“With all his experiences gathered for close to 24 years, Bagbin will leave a gap in parliament for deciding not to contest again”, he bemoaned.

The Majority Leader who spoke on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM’s morning show monitored by revealed that internal politics in NDC and other factors might have compelled the Ghana’s longest serving MP not to contest at all.

“In our side of this world, it will be difficult for one to come back to parliament after contesting for presidential primaries and I know the internal politics in NDC”, the Suame lawmaker.

The longest serving lawmaker at the close of nominations last week, did not pick a form to contest the 2020 general elections on the ticket of the NDC signifying his desire to quit the legislature after 2020.

Hon. Bagbin who suffered a stiffer opposition within his party in the run up to the 2016 elections, maybe quitting to allow peace prevail in the party though sources reveal to that he will officially reveal his reasons for staying off.

The former flagbearer aspirant has served as an MP for seven consecutive terms since 1993.
