The Ministry of Transport has commenced the 2026 Transport Sector Strategic Review Retreat in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, as part of efforts to assess the performance of the sector and chart a path toward a more efficient and integrated transport system in Ghana.

The retreat has brought together key stakeholders and sector leaders to evaluate progress made across the transport industry, identify major operational challenges, and discuss policy measures aimed at improving service delivery nationwide.

According to the ministry, the strategic gathering is intended to serve as a platform for reviewing existing transport policies and strengthening coordination across the various subsectors, including road, rail, aviation, and maritime transport.

Participants, led by the Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, and his deputy, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, are also expected to deliberate on strategies to enhance safety, efficiency, infrastructure development, and regulatory reforms within the sector.

Delivering the welcome address, the Minister noted that the retreat forms part of the government's broader efforts to modernise Ghana's transport system and improve mobility to support economic growth and national development.

He further emphasised the importance of collaboration among state institutions, industry players, and development partners in building a transport network that is safe, reliable, and responsive to the needs of citizens and businesses.

The retreat is expected to conclude with recommendations and policy directions aimed at addressing current sector challenges and improving the overall performance of Ghana's transport ecosystem.
