Some 6000 residents of Bawku West in the Upper East region are in dire need of food.

The individuals had their livelihoods destroyed by this year’s spillage of excess water from the Bagre dam.

Officials of the National Disaster Management Organization in the area say any delay in providing these individuals with food assistance could worsen their plights.

Alfred Sawoud, the Upper East regional coordinator of NADMO said the assessment revealed that what the victims urgently need is food.

“The needs assessment clearly shows that what the people need is food, their houses were not inundated, it is just the farmlands that were affected,” Sawoud said.
