An Accra High Court, presided over by Mr Justice S. G. Baddoo has overturned the decision of a circuit court not to grant bail to Eben Quarcoo and Tommy Thompson, Editor and Publisher respectively of the Free Press. Consequently, he has granted each of the them bail in the sum of C10 million cedis with two sureties to be justified. The accused persons are alleged to have published libellous articles intended to defame the First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings in issues of the Free Press between December and January 1994/95. A circuit court presided over by Col. V.C. Doegah (rtd) had earlier refused bail to the accused on the grounds that it could breach the public peace.
