Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, along with his two deputies, Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, First Deputy Governor, and Elsie Addo Awadzi, Second Deputy Governor, were among the notable figures honoured at the National Honours and Awards ceremony.
During the ceremony held on December 30, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo conferred Dr. Ernest Addison with the Order of the Star of Ghana - Member Award for his exemplary leadership in the financial sector and public service.
Meanwhile, Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari and Elsie Addo Awadzi were both awarded the Grand Medal for their outstanding contributions to the financial sector and public service.
The citations read at the ceremony highlighted the significant achievements of each recipient in strengthening Ghana's financial sector and enhancing its global standing.
Dr. Ernest Addison was recognised for his leadership in elevating Ghana’s financial profile on the global stage. His work in representing Ghana at numerous international platforms and his contributions to sustainable development, debt management, and Africa's economic integration were highlighted.
The citation also praised his dedication to economic growth, stability, and his role in inspiring confidence in Ghana’s financial landscape.
“Your expertise and leadership have elevated Ghana’s profile in global financial circles. Your exemplary leadership at the Bank of Ghana has left an indelible legacy,” the citation stated.
Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari was celebrated for his instrumental role in strengthening Ghana’s banking sector and improving regulatory frameworks. Under his leadership, the Bank of Ghana has made significant strides in controlling inflation and promoting financial inclusion.
His contributions to international discussions on monetary policy, financial stability, and economic development were also recognised.
“You have been instrumental in overseeing policies that have strengthened the Ghanaian banking sector. Your leadership continues to have a lasting impact on our economy,” the citation read as it awarded him the Grand Medal.
Elsie Addo Awadzi was lauded for her distinguished representation of Ghana in high-level discussions with international financial institutions.
Her contributions to shaping monetary policy and global financial governance were also recognised. The citation also acknowledged her ability to engage with global counterparts with authority and insight.
“Your ability to engage with global counterparts has further elevated Ghana’s standing in the international financial community,” the citation praised as she was also awarded the Grand Medal.
