Bank provides community with safe water

The Royal Bank Foundation has funded the construction of a borehole at Edwinase-Abodom in the Bekwai Municipality, to supply the people in this deprived community, with safe drinking water.

This brings to 34, the number of boreholes it had so far sunk in six regions – Greater Accra, Ashanti, Eastern, Central, Western and Volta.

Dr. Kwame Baah-Nuakoh, its Senior Vice President, said seven of these were in Ashanti and mentioned the beneficiary communities as Ahinsan, Nintin, Offinso, Wonoo, Ofoase-Kokoben, Edwinase-Abodom and Kaase.

The target, he said, was to provide 60 such facilities across the country and had been awarded to the Geogroup Company.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Edwinase-Abodom project, he said it was part the bank’s corporate social responsibility, adding that it would continue to provide support to especially communities, which lacked vital social amenities.

The chief of the community, Nana Kyei Boadi II, thanked the bank for the intervention and said it had brought tremendous relief to the people.

It had ended the decades of struggle for potable water.

He used the opportunity to plead with the bank to grant soft loans to farmers to buy inputs and machinery to expand their farms.

It should also open a branch there to promote the culture of savings among the population.

Mr. Johnson Agyei, the assembly member, pledged to take good care of the borehole.
