Banku, Powers bout will be stopped with violence – Osu Traditional Council

The Osu Traditional council has taken an uncompromising stance on the need to postpone the Braimah Kamoko and Ayittey Powers fight with a warning to the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and the promoters not to stage the bout on May 16.

Failure to adhere to their caution would attract violent measures, including the use of stones and other ‘missiles’ to disrupt the fight.

Speaking to the media at the Osu Mantse Palace in Accra on Wednesday, Gua Wulomo of Osu, Nuumo Gbelenfo said the stipulated date for the bout falls within the period of the ban on drumming and noise making for the Ga community.

He added that no activity, including football, church services, funerals and boxing would be allowed to destroy the customs of the Ga people.

“We have prepared very well for the sacred period and would not allow any activity or individuals to destroy our hard preparations,” he said.

Starting from May 9, he said no activity would be allowed in the stadium and its related environs in the pursuit of upholding Ga customs and traditions.

“Bukom Banku and Ayittey Powers are all natives of the Ga state and are aware of the customs of the land and it would be of interest to them not to fight on May 16,” he further cautioned.

He stressed that the decision by the council is final and would not entertain any dialogue from the GBA and the promoters to rescind their decision.

“We are not ready to allow any disaster as that of May 9 to occur so promoters must choose a different venue or region outside the jurisdiction of the Ga state for the bout,” he advised.

All stakeholders and the general public are expected to observe the sacred period as a sign of respect to the rituals of Osu and the traditions of the state.
