Bantama traders, PWDs chastise NDC's Dela Edem for unsavoury comments

Two Persons with disability (PWDs) in Asokwa have called on Dela Edem, a known National Democratic (NDC) member, to hurriedly render a better apology to John Agyekum Kufuor for the unsavoury comments on his person.

The PWDs called on the NDC man to show proper remorse by appearing on television and radio stations to apologise for spewing distasteful and insensitive words.

Addressing the media Tuesday morning, Clifford Owusu Ansah, financial secretary for PWDs in Asokwa, said he was surprised a grown-up man could utter such senseless words.

"Not only were the words senseless and needless, but it showed how some people see some of us who through no fault of ours are incapacitated or are suffering from the consequences of road accidents".

Appeal:

On her part, Hannah Owusu Dwomoh, a resident and athlete in Asokwa, said she was taken aback by the uncivilised comments of NDC's Dela Edem.

She noted that suffering from a deformity or having a form of incapacity does not mean PWDs were less of human beings.

She said PWDs currently were the very persons whose activities in the sporting arena bring laurels to Ghana.

"I am surprised that this man could disrespect us in such a manner and make those of us in wheelchairs look like less humans. If he cares to know Ghana has become famous in the sporting world through the express performances of PWDs at paralympic games and other world competitions", Madam Dwomoh noted.

At the Bantama market, some traders clad in NPP t-shirts, calling themselves sympathisers of NPP and daughters of President Kufuor, addressed the media, calling on NDC members to show decorum in their speech.

They also called on Dela Edem to use every medium available to show remorse and apologise to the many PWDs and John Agyekum Kufuor, whom his comments sought to attack.

One of the spokespersons, Ruth Agyei, said the NDC man's utterances to people in wheelchairs were demeaning and condescendingly annoying.

"It was very nauseating hearing this Dela Edem talk so badly on the person of President Kufuor, a man who could easily father him and cater for him. We, the traders at Bantama market, therefore, call on Dela Edem to take every opportunity to apologise to the former President and to all PWDs who have been affected by the silly comments", Madam Agyei stated.
