Cape Coast, March 3, GNA - A 24-year-old barber, Paul Amissah who allegedly murdered his five-year-old step son, was on Wednesday arraigned=
before a district magistrate court in Cape Coast. His plea was not taken and has been remanded in prison custody to be re-arraigned on March 29.
Inspector Christiana Sampong told the court that one Maame Anyima is the wife of Amissah and they live together with the boy at Akotokyir, a community near the University of Cape Coast.
She said on January 10 the wife went to Cape Coast to work and left her son in the care of Amissah.
Inspector Sampong said Amissah went out with the boy to Kwaprow, a= community, two kilometers away from where they live into a "den of criminals" where he allegedly went to smoke Indian hemp. She alleged that the accused was later seen coming from the "den" with the deceased unconscious but died on the way to the Central Regional Hospital.
Inspector Sampong said during investigations, Amissah told the police that the boy drowned in the Kakum River which is close to the "den". She said a post mortem examinations carried on the deceased and date= d January 12, 2010 stated, "severe head and neck injuries with skull fractu= re, dislocated cervical vertebrae due to a fall and impact of the head on riv= er bed".
