Barclays Bank of Ghana Limited has won the Best IT Infrastructure Award for 2001 at the inaugural Ghana Banking Awards 2001 for corporate banking held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.

Corporate Initiative Ghana, (CIG) in collaboration with the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GNCCI) and the Association of Ghana Industries (AG) organised the award.

Mr. Kobina Quansah, Managing Director of Barclays Bank, Ghana who received the award thanked the initiators of the awards, and said it amply testifies to the Bank's commitment to its Information Technology (IT) programme.

He reiterated Barclays' acceptance of the challenges posed by the IT age stressing that tremendous investment in its IT infrastructure, has provided the Bank with the platform on which to develop new technologically driven products to meet customers' ever changing needs.

The Bank, he said, continues to provide innovative cutting edge trade and cash management solutions to meet the needs of its corporate customers, and Barclays was the first High Street Bank to fully network its branches which enabled its customers to bank with the Bank as opposed to banking with their branches.

The rationale, Mr. Quansah said, "is to leverage the benefits of its capabilities enhanced by immense investment in IT infrastructure to the advantage of our customers, offering them an unbeatable range of innovative products and quality service. This reinforces the Bank's philosophy of customer primacy - putting the customer at the centre of everything we do."
