Barefoot Power donates to East Legon police station

Barefoot Power Africa Limited, a global social-for-profit enterprise on Monday donated GH¢5,000.00 worth of solar panels to the East Legon Police station to help prevent the darkness that engulfs the place when there is power outage.

The solar panel termed ‘power pack’ consisted of five different panels, batteries and LED fluorescent tubes.

The panel also has two to six Universal Serial Bus (USB) outputs, 12V outputs, maintenance free battery, USB charging kit which is upgradable.

Presenting the panels in Accra, Mr. Kwasi Owusu Gyeabour, the Country Manager for Barefoot Power Ghana, said following the recent power outages it was best to support the police station with lightening systems.

Mr Gyeabour said the gesture would help build a fruitful relationship and a strong partnership between the company and the police.

He noted that a panel can last for fifteen years but there must be a constant change in the battery.

Mr Jackson Machuhi, Chief Executive Officer of Barefoot Power, based in Nairobi, Kenya, offered a helping hand to the Ghana base team to make the donation.

He said the lights would help keep the neighbourhood safe enough for citizens to patrol the place without any fear or concern.

DSP Emmanuel Basintale, the Legon District Commander, who received the items on behalf of the Police, expressed his appreciation for the gesture.

He assured the donors that they would maintain the lights for it to perform its function without any problem.

“We will make sure it lasts for the time it is supposed to for the good of the Police Station,” he added.
