For the first time in the history of the Ghanaian Community in the Netherlands, a durbar of gazetted chiefs and queen-mothers was held recently in Amsterdam to mark the inauguration ceremony of Barima Asamoah Kofi IV- known in private life as Stephen Kwasi Oduro- Abakomahene of Abrem Traditional Area in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem district in the Central region of Ghana.
Barima Asamoah Kofi who was enstooled last April this year, is besides being a popular health information officer with Amsterdam Municipal Public Health Authority (GG&GD) was for the period 2002-2006 a member of Amsterdam Southeast District Council member for the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA) and later the ?Leefbaar Zuidoost? Party.
The ceremony was graced by cross-section of the multicultural southeast community including politicians, public servants, Ghanaian community leaders and others from all walks of life. Notably represented were the Okyeman Foundation -of which Barima Asamoah Kofi is the current Chairman-and the Manstiman Association in The Netherlands.
