General Secretary of the National Association of Graduate Teachers, Samuel Frank Dadzie has charged government give basic education the same attention and dedication it exhibited towards the implantation of the Free SHS policy.
Presenting the association’s communique to the Education Ministry at a press conference in Accra, Samuel Dadzie admonished government to provide funding to invest in basic education since that is the foundation of the country’s educational system.
“Kindergarten and primary education, as well as JHS, are the foundation of our educational system, and we call on government to find the funds and invest in the sector. We ask government to transmit the same fervour, enthusiasm, determination that sourced the rolling of the Free SHS to the basic schools,”
He claimed that: “This is to ensure that the educational system of Ghana has a very strong foundation. This responsibility must not and cannot be left in the hands of private entrepreneurs whose intention is to make profit out of the educational system,”
The General Secretary of NAGRAT intimated that Free SHS can only thrive if its foundation, which is basic education, is well resourced.
“If you want Free SHS, the lower levels of education must be well resourced to provide free quality KG, primary and JHS [education],” he concluded.
