News of the re-opening of schools for final year Junior High School (JHS) students have been warmly received by school authorities and parents in the Akatsi South District of the Volta region.
Mr Godson Tome, the Proprietor of the Kingship Knowledge Academy, a private school in the District, in an interaction with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the management of the School was eagerly preparing to receive the students back to school.
He said some measures had been put in place to help prevent the spread of the virus.
"We started procuring some 'Veronica Buckets' for hand washing and alcohol–based hand sanitizers, as well as purchasing some temperature guns for regular temperature checks of our pupils," he said.
The Proprietor added that, "We got some disinfectants for regular cleaning of the classrooms, toilets and other facilities of the school as well."
Mr. Tome said the school management also printed out all educational information including the mode of transmission of the COVID-19, symptoms and preventive measures, which they would place at vantage points.
"Management is poised and working to ensure that we all adhere to the safety measures and social distancing protocols of both students and teachers," he said.
In a related development, Mr. Wise Afeadi, the Headmaster of Zuta D/A Basic School in the District told the GNA that the School was liaising with the local Assembly and the District Education Directorate to put measures in place before school resumed for its final year students.
Some parents the GNA spoke with, said they had no option than to allow their wards go back to school to prepare for their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The GNA observed that the two Senior High Schools (SHSs) in the District were feverishly putting all safety measures in place for re-opening to all final year students from June 22.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his 10th address to update citizens on the enhanced national response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Sunday, 31st May, announced partial re-opening of schools for finalists from basic to tertiary levels to enable them to complete their programmes.
