The furore that marred the 12th-anniversary commemoration of the demise of former Ghanaian president, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, is not dying down soon as his brother and head of the family, Dr. Cadman Atta Mills, and Samuel Koku Anyidoho, the former deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, have taken the fight to social media.
The wreath-laying event on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, was rocked with a melee, with the family and the NDC accusing Koku Anyidoho of overrunning the time allocated to him and seeking to instigate a row between his faction and the family.
Subsequently, Samuel Atta Mills, a brother of the late president, threatened to take action against Koku Anyidoho and accused him of leveraging the power of the state to orchestrate condemnable actions against the Mills family and the NDC.
In response to the claims, Koku Anyidoho made a series of social media publications against the family of the late Ghanaian president, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, particularly his brothers, Dr. Cadman Mills and Samuel Atta Mills.
Koku Anyidoho, in the tweets, dared the Mills brothers to expose him as they have threatened and made some claims against them relative to the demise of their brother.
Some of Koku Anyidoho's tweets read: “For the first time; I was the one who got that useless Cadman Atta-Mills to register the Atta-Mills Foundation. Can Cadman deny that I got him to register the Atta-Mills Foundation? What happened to the $100,000 from a certain oil company that came through me to Cadman?
“For the longest; I have respected my covenant with the late President Atta-Mills that’s why I have kept quiet about the extreme foolishness of Cadman and Samuel Atta-Mills but if they dare me, they shall regret their gross idiocy!”
Koku’s tweets elicited responses from Dr. Cadman Atta Mills, who is a brother of the late president and the head of the family.
Dr. Cadman Mills, in an attempt to expose Koku Anyidoho, alleged how the presidential staffer tried to turn the son of the late president against the Mills family.
“Koku tried to manipulate Prof. Mills' son (then 23) to partner with him to establish an 'Atta Mills Foundation.' When I was approached, I informed them that Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills and I had already registered the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Foundation and invited him (Koku) to work with us. At first, Koku was willing. Through Koku, I even had one of Koku's young assistants design the logo for the Foundation.
“For reasons best known to Koku, he then simply vanished, and the last I heard was that he had formed his own Atta-Mills Institute. However, I was not surprised because his outsized ego would not permit him to work for Mrs. Mills and me, and Koku had never been a team player, witnessed by the numerous problems he created for President Mills (refusal to take orders from the venerable Mr. Totobi Kwakye in charge of communications, and bitter 'rivalry' with Mahama Ayariga, a more erudite and polished communications aide to President Mills),” parts of his post read.
