Bawku Central MP Launches 2004 Campaign Bid

Pusiga (U/E), Dec 17, GNA - Madam Hawa Yakubu, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, has began a tour of her constituency to launch her campaign to maintain her parliamentary seat in next year's elections.

She began the tour at her hometown, Pusiga, where she addressed a grand durbar, stating that she intends to serve one more term in Parliament before taking a shot at the Presidency.


Madam Yakubu said her desire to stand again for the seat was as a result of her inability to offer herself wholly to help alleviate the sufferings of the people due to the numerous conflicts in the area.


She said once these conflicts have subsided it behoves on her to chart the developmental agenda she had in mind to improve the people's living conditions, stressing "now that there is peace, we need to change our destiny from diseases, malnutrition and poverty to that of prosperity and development".


The MP said her people's intolerance of others' views that has often resulted in frequent conflicts and urged them to coexist peacefully

During an interaction with the youth, Madam Yakubu told them to eschew vengeance, stressing the need for forgiveness in order to move the area forward.


Madam Yakubu said vengeance would only bring misery, urging them to channel all their energies in rebuilding a society of peace, understanding and tolerance, which are pre-requisites for development. The MP called on them to take advantage of the various skills acquisition programmes being initiated by her and the government to enhance their future career prospects to improve their lot.


At the Bawku onion market, the last lap of her campaign tour, the sellers appealed to Madam Yakubu to use her influence to construct dams to enable them to irrigate their crops during the dry seasons, and to see to it that their market is rehabilitated to secure it from thieves.
