Bawku Conflict: Curfew not the solution – Dr Adam Bonaa

Security analyst Dr. Adam Bonaa has asserted that the curfew imposed on the residents of Bawku and its environs is not the solution to the ongoing mayhem while describing it as a temporal measure.

During an interview on TV3’s NewDay, monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Dr. Adam Bonaa stated that the essence of the curfew was to make the work of the deployed military personnel easier and to identify miscreants to arrest.

“The curfew is just a temporary measure to ensure that security deployed there can take control of the situation and to arrest miscreants who go against the law. This curfew won’t do much. There has always been curfew in Bawku with different time frames," he revealed.

He described the press release by the national security as empty while expressing concern about the number of people dying due to the disturbance in Bawku and surrounding communities.

According to him, it is the job of the National Security and the leadership to solve problems and not to complain or recount the problem without pointing to how to solve it.

He further urged the leadership to work and bring out solutions to ensure there is peace and serenity at Bawku.

In the late hours of Monday, October 28, 2024, the government, through the Interior Ministry, declared a curfew in Bawku following renewed disturbances stemming from the return of Mr. Seidu Abagre, who was controversially enskinned as Bawku Naba in February 2023.

The curfew was announced after an emergency National Security meeting held on October 28, 2024. The curfew is said to run from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM daily until further notice.

A statement issued on October 28 noted that the recent disturbances, which began on October 24, 2024, after Mr. Abagre’s return, have led to significant loss of life and threaten to escalate beyond Bawku.
