A driver transporting students of Kongo Senior High School (SHS) in Nabdam to Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region met his untimely demise when gunmen attacked them.

According to a report by Adomonline.com, the gunmen forced the students out of the vehicle and proceeded to burn the vehicle while the driver was still inside.

The report indicated that the incident occurred in front of Bawku SHS around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, while the students were traveling from Widana.

It was noted that the attack is likely connected to the renewed chieftaincy dispute in Bawku.

About 21 people have reportedly been killed since the conflict in Bawku reignited after a rival chief, whom the government has described as illegitimate, returned to the area.

On Sunday, October 27, 2024, gunmen blocked the Bolgatanga-Tamale route near Gbimsi, a village close to Walewale, and opened fire, killing eight travelers.

The armed men erected barricades in Gbimsi and Walewale Town on Sunday to identify possible targets.

The fatal incident raised serious security concerns, with about eight individuals killed. Passengers caught in the barricade were questioned about their identities, and two vehicles were also set on fire.

“I was traveling from Sunyani to Paga. Upon reaching Walewale, people had mounted roadblocks and were searching for individuals to kill. The incident lasted for more than an hour, yet security did not respond,” a survivor recounted of the terrifying ordeal.
