Bawku MCE denies GNA story over Bawku security situation

Bolgatanga, Dec. 21, GNA - The Bawku Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Abduliah Musah, has appealed to journalists to be circumspect about stories carried on Bawku because the area is still volatile.

He said his doors were wide open and reporters should feel free to cal= l on him whenever they needed information about Bawku and refrain from carrying reports that did not reflect the true situation on the ground. The MCE said this in reaction to a story carried by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) about the strategic measures put in place by the Municipality to celebrate the yuletide and various festivities including Samanpeid and Damba. Mr Musah denied granting such an interview and said knowing the unpredictable nature of Bawku 93I couldn't have granted such an intervie= w".

He said: 93I know the controversies surrounding the celebration of Damba in Bawku and I know the measures national security has put in place t= o halt the celebration of this festival."

Mr Musah said on Wednesday on December 8 and Thursday December 9 he wa= s in Tamale to join his colleagues for the launch of a sanitation programme. "My movements logged in my office are evidence to prove my absence f= rom the office and therefore clearly exonerate me." He called on the management of the GNA to retract the story and apologise to him 93to calm the situation down because the story is creatin= g a big problem in Bawku". 21 Dec. 10
