Mr Simon Agbango Anyan, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bawku West, has said the district would undertake lots of development projects this year, especially on health, education and spatial planning.
The DCE, who told the Ghana News Agency in Zebilla, at the weekend, said the Assembly would also monitor all housing projects to ensure orderliness in human settlements, and also enhance spatial planning, land use and management.
He said all roads in the districts would see a facelift this year, adding, the 11.3 kilometre- feeder road from Kokore to Zebilla, as well as the 3.0 km Azuwere Junction to Azuweera road would be reshaped, under the Ghana Social Opportunities Project (GSOP).
The DCE said health of the people was a priority to the assembly, saying one CHPS compound in Soogo was completed and handed over to the Community members, whilst that of Apondaboogo Community had reached an advanced stage.
The assembly had earmarked three CHPS compounds for Gozeisi, Biringu, Dagunga, which were currently delivering health services under trees, he explained.
According to the DCE, new projects under education earmarked for construction this year included a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Zuayaye, Kansogo and Agatuuse, with a Junior High School to be built at Azuweera. These would be sponsored under the District Development Fund (DDF).
The assembly, he said, would also construct drainage systems in the towns and rural areas to prevent flooding during the rainy season.
He expressed worry about the manner in which houses were constructed in the communities without toilet facilities and said the Assembly would sensitise residents, especially landlords, to provide toilet facilities in their buildings.
Meanwhile, a two-unit kindergarten block at Zanga Primary has been completed whilst a six-unit classroom block and ancillaries at Kuboore, a three-unit classroom block with office and store at Kusana JHS, and another three-unit classroom block with office and store at Zebilla Primary have reached various stages of completion, with funds from the District Common Fund.
According to official records, the Bawku West District is one of the 13 Districts and Municipals in the Upper East Region. The District is located in the north-eastern section of the Region.
With Zebilla as the District Administrative capital, it is bordered to the north by the Republic of Burkina Faso, to the east by the Binduri District, to the west by Talensi District and Nabdam District respectively and to the south by East Mamprusi District.
Irrigated agriculture is one of the most profitable ventures in the district as the White Volta River, with other water bodies provides a perennial water source for irrigation.
Millet, maize, onions, rice, cowpea and guinea corn, tomatoes and other vegetables are cultivated. Sheep, goats, cattle and guinea fowls are also reared.
Gold Mining is another area with strong investment potentials because gold deposits have been discovered in the district.
