Bawumia attends Yaa-Naa Mahamadu's funeral

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Thursday December 27, 2018 joined hundreds of people in Yendi for the final funeral service of the late Yaa-Naa Mahamadu Abdulai IV.

He arrived at the forecourt of the reconstructed Old Gbewaa Palace to loud cheers from the mammoth crowd.

The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Sae-ed led the government delegation which included Defence Minister, Dominic Nitiwul, the Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, David Asante Apietu, the Member of Parliament for Madina-Abokobi, Sheikh Alhaji Boniface Abubakari Sadique, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives and some Members of Parliament from the Northern Region among other dignitaries.

Uncountable chiefs from both sides of the chieftaincy divide in the Dagbon Traditional Area, chiefs from the Konkomba land and from the Nanung Traditional Area were there too.

Clad in black mourning clothes, a number of chiefs from the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi accompanied by leadership of the Asante community in Tamale graced the occasion.

There was a variety of cultural entertainment interspersed with the display of horses and the rattle of musketry.

The Boling-Lana Abdulai Mahamadu in his traditional regalia performed the ritual of riding a horse and made several rounds around one of the sacred rooms in the reconstructed Old Gbewaa Palace.

The media had a hectic day covering the historic event and some had to climb trees to get nice shots.

There was a limited verbal interaction there because of the massive crowd.

Nothing untoward happened because the security operatives there maintained law and order.

Nana Addo meets Andani family

Simultaneously, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo met with a high powered delegation from the Andani family at the Jubilee House, Accra.

Vo-Naa Alhaji M. B Bawa, Lawyer Ibrahima Mahama and some prominent chiefs from the Andani family as well as the children of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II formed part of the delegation.

Convener of the meeting, Salifu Sae-ed at the Tamale Airport in an exclusive interview explained that the delegation went to reaffirm their commitment to perform the final funeral rites of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II scheduled for January 4 to 18, 2019.

According to the Northern Regional Minister, the delegation will later meet the Asantehene Otumfou Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

As the chief architect of the performance of funerals of the late two Yaa-Naas of Dagbon, Salifu Sae-ed commended Dagombas for their support towards the restoration of absolute peace and genuine reconciliation in the area.

He reiterated government's neutrality in handling the age-long and protracted chieftaincy impasse between the Abudus and the Andanis overtime.

He said government in collaboration with the Eminent Kings mediating the chieftaincy impasse is on course to permanently solve the problem for peace and tranquillity to triumph in Dagbon.

The Regional Security Council (REGSEC) Chairman, Salifu Sae-ed re-echoed the need for the media to be circumspect in their reportage.

Boling-Lana's installation

The Abudu Family on December 14, 2018 installed the Boling-Lana, Abdulai Mahamudu as the new Regent of Dagbon in line with the roadmap for the performance of the funerals of the two late Overlords of the Dagbon Traditional Area.

It was held at the forecourt of the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi Township.

The installation ceremony was witnessed by dignitaries including the Minister for National Security, Albert Kandapah, the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Kofi Dzamesi, the Northern Regional Minister, traditional authorities and scores of people from all walks of life amidst heavy security presence.
