Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia
The Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has lauded Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, the ‘Dormaahene’ for implementing numerous development projects in the Dormaa Traditional Area and his immense contribution towards sports development in the country.
Paying glowing tribute to the paramount Chief and Odeneho Akosua Fima Dwabeng, the paramount Queen, the Vice President described the two traditional leaders as "defining light and real gems of traditional authority promoting development and growth".
He cited the Dormaahene had embarked on a number of development projects which included; the Dormaa Traditional Council’s Mortuary, a 20-seater water closet toilet facility at Dormaa- Ahenkro and a 10-seater water closet toilet facility at Wamfie in the Dormaa East District.
Others are the construction of a one-storey building for Dormaa-Ahenkro branch of the Agricultural Development Bank and an office of the proposed Dormaa Development Commission.
Alhaji Dr. Bawumia gave the commendation when he spoke at a grand colourful durbar to climax the joint 20th anniversary celebration of the enstoolment of the Dormaahene and the ‘Dormaahemaa’ (paramount Queen) on Saturday at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region.
The programme, marked with pomp and pageantry, rich display of tradition and culture on the theme “Celebrating 20 Years of Stewardship Using Tradition and Culture to Promote Development” coincided with the celebration of the Dormaa biennial Kwafie festival.
It was graced by some high profile personalities, including; former President John Dramani Mahama, some top government officials, high ranking officials of the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress, some prominent chiefs from other parts of the country, top security officials, the clergy and the public.
Alhaji Dr. Bawumia stated that the Dormaahene’s 20 years reign had brought hope to not only the people of the area, but all Ghanaians in many aspects of the society such as promoting peace, education, youth development and humanitarian services.
The Vice President appealed to traditional authorities to endeavour to prevent the occurrence of chieftaincy disputes because they impeded accelerated and general progress of affected communities and even the livelihoods of some individuals and families.
He therefore entreated traditional councils that were having challenges of chronic chieftaincy disputes to emulate the perfect example set by the eminent chiefs in resolving the Dagon chieftaincy dispute.
