Bawumia’s CitizenApp has left Mahama in the village - Ofoe Teye

The Tema East Constituency Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nene Ofoe Teye-Chu Agbadiagba IV, has celebrated Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia after he launched the CitizenApp, a digital public infrastructure platform that provides citizens with one-stop access to digital public goods.

In doing so, Nene Agbadiagba compared and contrasted the digital advancements made by Dr. Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate for the 2024 election, with former President John Mahama’s offer to provide farmers with chickens to rear.

“I will not say much. I think that at this rate, Ghanaians themselves can assess and see for themselves that His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has shot into the future and left Mahama in the village of history,” said Nene Ofoe Teye-Chu Agbadiagba IV, who recently retired from the GPHA.

Nene Agbadiagba, who was recently given a powerful citation at GPHA, was speaking to journalists in an exclusive interview at the Tema Fishing Harbour when he made the analogy.

“In this day and age, when progressive and forward-looking countries are having conversations about using PoultryApp and even AI for agriculture, Mr. John Mahama is thinking about packing chicken in a polythene bag for farmers,” Nene Agbadiagba mocked John Mahama with a smile.

On Monday, October 7, 2024, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who is also the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, launched the CitizenApp in Accra.

The CitizenApp, which features a unique identification system like the Ghana card, has been designed to give citizens a lifetime digital experience. The app can be used to access public services, such as registering the birth of a newborn baby, applying for a passport and driver’s license, renewing an NHIS card, registering businesses, filing taxes, searching for jobs, changing names, and, in the unfortunate event of the death of a loved one, accessing a death certificate.

Dr. Bawumia explained that since 2017, the NPP government has remained committed to laying a solid digital foundation, including the introduction of a Biometric National Identity Card (Ghanacard), a digital address system, mobile money interoperability to increase financial inclusion, and the digitization of critical public services.

Building these digital foundations is critical to the transition of a contemporary economy during the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The launch of the CitizenApp, he says, “further demonstrates our commitment to enhancing interactions between government and citizens, as well as giving citizens the best digital experience.”

Responding to the development, Nene Ofoe Teye-Chu Agbadiagba praised Dr. Bawumia for what he described as his “sense of the future,” adding that the digital footprints Dr. Bawumia is leaving on Ghana’s development are his ticket to a massive victory in the 2024 presidential election.
