The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called for additional investigations into allegations that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was verified in his home in the ongoing voter exhibition exercise.

The vice-presidential nominee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was alleged to have been verified at his home by officers of the Electoral Commission (EC) at the Walewale constituency, an allegation the NPP has denied.

However, addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday August 3, General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, said if investigations into the matter turn out to be true, the NDC would make sure the electoral laws are equally applied.

“Dr Bawumia’s verification allegation, as far as we are concerned, remains an allegation at this stage, but we will push for the laws of elections to be applied to everybody equally without fear or favour.

We are leaving the Electoral Commission to do their investigation and then we will take it from there. Whatever will come out of the investigation, we will pursue it and if it turns out to be true, then Dr Bawumia will have to answer why he is projecting the NDC to be the party that carries the registration kits across the border to register Togolese to divert people’s attention to NDC, and then he would go and influence the same election officials to carry the verification kits to his house.

It is an illegal activity. If it is proven, then the laws must equally apply,” he stated.
