Ghanaians must be fortunate they have an analytic mind in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to solve the challenges facing the economy, former President John Agyekum Kufuor has said.

Speaking Thursday in Accra at a public lecture on the Ghanaian economy delivered by Dr. Bawumia, Kufuor said the economy is the most topical issue in the country.

He said Ghanaians are in low spirit over the state of the economy.

“Ghanaians are mourning, and they want answers,” he noted.

He said in this era of:“technocracy and solutions oriented applications, the nation must itself fortunate to have such a son as Alhaj Mahamudu Bawumia.”

Dr. Bawumia, he added, rightly fitted the role of the much-needed analyst to help Ghanaians appreciate the challenges facing the economy.

For his part, Member of Parliament for Nsuta-Kwamang in the Ashanti region, Kwame Osei Prempeh said the economy is in an extreme dire state.

This, he said, was as a result of the terrible management skills being exhibited by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by President John Dramani Mahama.

“Things are getting worse every day,” he told Starr News’ Bernard Nasara Saibu Thursday at the event.

But government argued otherwise observing that Ghana is the second largest economy in the Western African Sub-Region behind Nigeria.

“If you take the size of the economy, Ghana has the largest second economy in West Africa after Nigeria, and Cote d’Ivoire is third, and so I normally don’t like those comparisons because each country is at a different stage in its development and the circumstances in each country are peculiar,” said President Mahama on Good Evening Ghana.
