Be careful with NDC; they came to 'seek, kill and destroy' - Kabila tells EC

Social commentator and political activist, James Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly known as Kabila, has admonished the Electoral Commission (EC) to be cautious in dealing with the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Kabila, who was unhappy with the Electoral Commission’s decision to rescind its directive to withdraw agents of political parties from observing the votes transfer exercise, stated that, the NDC cannot be trusted when it comes to dealing fairly with the Electoral Commission.

“I was astonished to hear that the EC, in the name of transparency, contrary to law, invited political party agents to observe the vote transfer exercise. It wasn’t a bad decision to take, but, you have to tread cautiously because of the kind of people you are dealing with.

"This is a party which boycotted IPAC (Inter-party Advisory Committee) meeting for three good years, after the 2020 general elections. Upon their return, they did not come back as prodigal sons, but came to seek, kill and destroy. That is the agenda they came with,” he stated.

The former General Secretary of the Convention’s People’s Party (CPP) stated that, the Electoral Commission should have remained resolute in the decision they had taken to disallow the political party agents from observing the votes transfer exercise in the wake of the violence that erupted, instead of chickening out on it decisions once the NDC coughs.

"EC, I am on your side, but, leap frogging is not your thing. Intransigence is one of your tags, positively. The NDC wants to overturn everything the EC has legally put in place,” he said.

Kabila’s comments comes in sequel to the Electoral Commission’s press release on Sunday, June 2, where the EC directed all its regional directors to direct district officers not to allow any agent from the political parties to be part of the observation of the votes transfer exercise, following pockets of life-threatening violent attacks at some districts.

The EC, after a broader stakeholder consultation, lifted the ban on June 4, allowing the agents of the political parties to go back and observe the proceedings of the votes transfer.

Speaking on Peace FM’s 'Kokrokoo' morning show on Wednesday, June 5, Kabila revealed that the opposition party, NDC, is poised to destabilise the electoral process no matter how much it will cost the party and Ghanaians at large.
