The Central Regional branch of the Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to ensure that the suspect who stabbed the son of the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Koomson, is prosecuted.

The party has condemned the stabbing incident that occurred at the EC Registration Centre during the ongoing limited voter's transfer last week.

The NDC Branch Organizer for Kasoa Jomens–Kpomotey Electoral Area has been arrested and remanded by the Accra High Court for stabbing Hawa Koomson's son, Ato Koomson, after a misunderstanding, an incident which left the victim in critical condition.

Addressing a press conference at the NPP party office in Kasoa, Central Regional NPP Secretary, Richard Takyi Mensah, condemned the unfortunate incident and called on the IGP to stand firm and prosecute the suspect to serve as a deterrent to others.

"Fortunately, this dastardly act happened in the full glare of the police, and they arrested the suspects and have put them before court. We trust the IGP-led police service under Dr. Akuffo Dampare, and we are confident that the IGP will follow this case and ensure that justice is served, and the culprits are ruthlessly dealt with according to law," he said.

Takyi Mensah further stated that Kasoa was peaceful until the NDC elected Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor as parliamentary candidate.

"As soon as Naa Koryoo became the parliamentary candidate in 2020, Kasoa began to be in the news politically, always for the wrong reasons. This behavior is unacceptable, and we roundly condemn the stabbing incident," he added.

Meanwhile, NPP Central Regional Women Organizer, Charlotte Adwoa Antwi, said the NPP is focused on winning both the presidential and parliamentary elections in the Central Region come December 7, 2024; hence, the party will not do anything to jeopardize the peace in the region.

She affirmed that the Awutu Senya East seat is safe under the leadership of Mavis Hawa Koomson.
