The opposition New Patriotic Party has urged Ghanaians and non-Ghanaians resident in the country Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year, reminding them that “we all have contributions to make towards the development of our dear country”.

According to the party, for that reason, as citizens and non-citizens observe the anniversary of Christ’s birth, it was necessary to “appreciate” that everyone has “contributions” to make towards the country’s development.

“It is, therefore, important to remind ourselves of the need to be moderate and measured in our celebrations to avoid any unpleasant happenings that will be injurious to us, as individuals and the nation,” a statement signed by the party’s acting General Secretary John Boadu read.

The NPP, which won the December 7 presidential elections and parliamentary elections, said it was of the “firm belief” that the fruits of the change majority of Ghanaians voted for will begin to show from 2017 when President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo has been sworn in, admonishing Ghanaians to remember the next president and the party in their prayers to position them well to serve the nation’s interests.

The statement concluded: “We want to use this occasion to reassure the nation that the incoming NPP government will seek effective partnership with all Ghanaians, individuals and groups, as we work together to ensure that the new era of change engenders the kind of progress and prosperity that will satisfy the needs and aspirations of the people.”

Below is the party’s statement:

NPP WISHES GHANAIANS MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR

The New Patriotic Party wishes all Ghanaians, and non-Ghanaian residents in the country, a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

As we observe this occasion, let us all understand and appreciate the fact that, we all have contributions to make towards the development of our dear country.

It is therefore important to remind ourselves of the need to be moderate and measured in our celebrations to avoid any unpleasant happenings that will be injurious to us, as individuals and the nation.

More importantly, we are celebrating this year’s holidays at a time the change we had all been yearning for in the political leadership of the country has been made possible.

It is our firm belief that, the benefits of the change will begin to manifest next year after the president-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has been sworn into office on January 7, 2017.

We want to appeal to all Ghanaians to remember the president-elect and the NPP in their prayers, so that we can be well-positioned to serve the best interest of the country.

We want to use this occasion to re-assure the nation that the incoming NPP government will seek effective partnership with all Ghanaians, individuals and groups, as we work together to ensure that the new era of change engenders the kind of progress and prosperity that will satisfy the needs and aspirations of the people.

Once again, we wish all of you a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year.

---Signed---

JOHN BOADU

GENERAL SECRETARY (AG.)
