Be security conscious- Police tell Hoteliers

Accra, April 14, GNA - The Police on Thursday said laxity exhibited by staff of hotels could jeopardize their operations and drive away investors.

They have, therefore, appealed to hotel managers to educate their staff on security issues so that they could maintain their customers and attract more investors into the country.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr James Annor, Osu District Commander, who gave the advice, noted that there were several stealing cases going on in some hotels which were not reported. The advice followed a case reported against Jeff Morris, a Nigerian who secured keys to his German friend's room and stole a laptop computer and some personal effects.

ASP Annor said on March 15, 2006 Mr Mattias Mayr, a German tourist who was lodging at Green Leaf Hotel at Osu reported that his laptop and other effects had been stolen.

He said at the hotel, Mr Mayr made friends with Jeff Morris, a 24 year old Nigerian who normally took him to town.

On March 15, 2006, ASP Annor said Morris and Mr Mayr went to town but Morris took leave of Mr Mayr with an excuse and went back to the hotel and sneaked into Mr Mayr's room and stole his laptop computer and other items and checked out.

Through the assistance of the security personnel at the American Embassy, where he was pursuing an American Visa, Morris was apprehended and sent to the Osu Police Station. ASP Annor said Moris admitted the offence.
