President John Dramani Mahama has warned his appointees that they will face the consequences if they abuse public trust or engage in corrupt practices.
He said the fight against corruption under his administration will not target only people from outside government, adding that current officials found culpable will also be dealt with.

“The sword does not cut only one way. If we find evidence that any of our current appointees or persons working in government under our tenure also has abused public trust, the way the sword is cutting that way, it will cut this way too,” he said at an event on Friday, July 17, 2026.
The president urged ministers and government officials to follow due process in their work and avoid taking shortcuts that could put them at risk.
“I always caution my appointees to be very careful. Be sure you follow the procedure. Don't cut corners,” he cautioned.
He advised ministers to seek collective decisions through Cabinet whenever they are uncertain about any matter, saying this would ensure transparency and shared responsibility.
“I tell the ministers every day, if you have any doubts, bring it to cabinet. Let's all look at it and take a collective decision on it,” he said.
President Mahama explained that decisions taken collectively by Cabinet would protect officials from accusations of acting alone for personal reasons.
“If you bring it to cabinet and we take a collective decision based on the wisdom of the president and all the ministers there, tomorrow nobody can come and hold you and say you did this on your own because you wanted to do this or do that,” he added.
He said his government will continue to prioritise accountability because it will help reduce corruption and prevent the misuse of state resources.

“We'll continue to pursue accountability because I believe that if we are accountable, we cut down corruption and we also reduce the amount of waste of public resources,” President Mahama said.
