Komenda-Sehwi, Aug. 10, GNA - The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Joseph Annan, said on Saturday that the current economic hardships facing Ghanaians is the making of the previous regime and not the NDC Government.
He therefore asked the people to give the necessary support to President Atta Mills and his men to enable them to salvage the shattered economy. Dr. Annan who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) was addressing the five communities as part of his on-going familiarization tour of the constituency. The communities are Sehwi, Komfokrom, Kwameata, Apeakokrom and Appiakrom.
So far the Minister had covered 52 out of 365 communities under his constituency.
Dr. Annan said education is the bedrock of every society, and appealed to parents to ensure the education of their children. On development, he said government cannot provide all the people's basic requirements, and urged the communities to initiate self-help projects to supplement the government's efforts. He said the functional literacy programme was being revived and appealed to the aged to enrol to learn to read and write. Dr. Annan thanked the people for voting massively for the NDC during the December 2008 elections, and promised to help solve some of the problems facing the communities.
The residents expressed concern about the deplorable nature of roads in the area, and appealed to the Department of Feeder Roads to rehabilitate the roads to ensure the easy transportation of foodstuff to marketing centres.
