Benevolent groups donate trash bins to schools

Akwantufo Welfare Club, in collaboration with SHARP Attitude, based in Winneba, have donated trash bins to 25 public and private schools within the Effutu Municipality.

The schools were the A.M.E. Zion D, Anglican, Methodist A and B, Methodist C and D, St Paul’s Preparatory, Ntakortam, Uncle Rich Preparatory, Zion A and B, Zion C, Zion Junior High, Effutu Municipal Assembly KG, Church of Christ KG/Primary, and Ansarudeen Islamic KG.

The rest were the University Practice KG. South, University Practice Primary, Presbyterian KG, Don Bosco Catholic Primary Boys KG, University Practice KG. North Campus, University Practice Primary North Campus, Don Bosco Catholic primary Boys, Ansarudeen Islamic primary/JHS, S.D.A Primary Schools, H and E KG and Effutu Municipal Assembly Primary A and B..

Presenting the items jointly at a ceremony held at the forecourt of the Effutu Directorate of the Ghana Education Service by Mr. K. B. Annan, patron, and Mr. Moses Morgue, President of the Club, stated that the donation formed part of their social responsibility to help address the indiscriminate littering of the environment.

Mr. Annan said the donation also served as a means of telling the children to embrace the culture of cleanliness wherever they might find themselves, and to be ambassadors of change in the society.

He said indiscipline was killing the country, and it was about time as people, we pooled resources together to make the environment clean and safe.

Mr. P. K. Quaye, Deputy Director of Education, who received the items, thanked the donors for the gesture.

He said the itemswouldl help educate the children on the need to put waste in the bins, and to practise the same in their homes for their parents to also do the same.

Mr. Kwesi Obeng Affari, the Club Secretary, said over the years, members had supported physically challenged children at Father John Memorial School with school uniforms and sandals, renovated the Effutu Municipal Government Hospital Children’s Ward, donated quantity of items to the then Country side Home in Bawjiase, and donated furniture to schools in the Effutu Municipality.

Mr. Wonderful Ghartey, President of SHARP Attitude, said keeping the environment clean would a long way to prevent diseases.
