Beposo booth to be re-located-Gidisu

Beposo(W/R) Feb. 16, GNA - The Beposo toll booth will be re-located to prevent further road accidents and deaths. Mr. Joe Gidisu, Minister for Roads and Highways announced this at Beposo after a working visit to ascertain the reasons for a recent accident that led to the death of a toll booth operator and a driver. He said the present location of the toll booth in the middle of the Beposo Township makes it even more urgent for re-location. Mr. Gidisu expressed regret about the lost lives and stressed that all toll booths will be critically accessed to ensure that they were safe for both drivers and the persons who operate them.

He said a temporary booth will be placed there while efforts were being made to re-design and place a new booth along the route. On February 14, an articulated truck with registration number GR 230 J driving at top speed, smashed into the concrete booth that was being manned by two persons. The driver of the articulated truck who is yet to be identified, died on the spot, while one of the toll collectors, Thomas Opoku, also died on the spot.

A second toll collector, Frederick Korankye, who sustained serious injuries, is still on admission at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority Clinic. The Minister later visited the family of the deceased and visited the injured. The Minister was accompanied by the Western Regional Minister, Mr. Paul E. Aidoo, Madam Emelia Arthur, District Chief Executive for Shama, Mr. Thomas Bismark Boakye, Regional Road Safety Committee Coordinator among others.
