Better the lot of Ghanaians – Nduom charges Mahama

2012 flag bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP,) Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has expressed hope that better days are ahead for the country as it is being ushered into the New Year, 2014.

He has, therefore, enjoined all those in leadership positions to fight and work hard to improve the living conditions of workers, the poor, aged and children.

Below is Dr. Nduom’s full statement

My wishes for a better Ghana in 2014

I wish to join together with All Ghanaians to give thanks to God Almighty for His grace, guidance and forgiveness. Through all our challenges, He has kept this country together. Truly, the year 2013 has been a challenging one. Indeed, “Ghanamanfo Abre.” I continue to believe that we are a chosen people put on this special piece of land we call Ghana. Otherwise, how could we waste some of the best human and other natural resources such as gold, diamond, bauxite, oil, manganese, etc., and still have hope for a better Ghana? Truly, God has been Good to the Ghanaian.

Under other circumstances, allegations of corruption, mismanagement and theft of both public and private resources as have been alleged in Ghana would have caused massive upheaval and unrest. But we Ghanaians have been spared. The sins of our leaders – government, public service, religious and business people have not been visited on the people. Our people have absorbed hikes in prices of electricity, water, petroleum products, VAT and are hoping for best. We are a special people.

I remain hopeful that better days are ahead of us. As a result, I have some serious wishes for 2014:

1. That all of us in leadership positions in the country fight and work hard to improve the living conditions of workers, the poor, aged and children.

2. That when we the people complain about difficulties that confront us as we live in our own country, leaders in government will show us some respect and talk to us in a manner to give us hope for a better tomorrow.

3. That President John D. Mahama will ensure that the 1992 Constitution is amended to allow the people to lead their own District/Municipal/Metropolitan Chief Executives.

4. That President John D. Mahama will ensure that the 1992 Constitution is amended to separate the Office of Attorney-General from the Ministry of Justice so that the Independent Prosecutor can lead a serious effort in the war against corruption.

5. That our country men and women will find it in their hearts to support Ghanaian enterprises to become stronger, more prosperous and that our government will support them through the judicious use of its purchasing power.

I wish all Ghanaians, our President, religious and private business leaders, good health, tolerance for each other’s opinions and a good life in 2014.
