Betty Mould-Iddrisu is a former Attorney General and Council of State member
Former Attorney General and a Council of State member, Betty Mould-Iddrisu, has said that Parliament has failed the women of Ghana because it has not passed a law to safeguard women's right in marriage.
Speaking at a ceremony in Accra on Wednesday, December 11, 2025, the former Attorney General, who served from 2009 to 2011, expressed frustration over the delay.
"I'm not good at mathematics, but from 2009 up till today, that bill hasn't been passed in Parliament.
“I stood in Parliament that same 2009 to present that bill… up till today, why? Parliament has failed the women of Ghana, when it comes to this, and I call upon the women's groups, and the CSOs," she noted.
Although she praised the judiciary for advancing women’s right, she stressed the need for collective effort.
“Our judiciary has done an absolutely incredible job… but there is still more to be done. And we as a collective have to push for it," Mould-Iddrisu added.
The Property Rights of Spouses Bill was introduced in Parliament during her tenure as Attorney General in 2009.
