Bike riding now part of Midwifery training

Mampong (Ashanti) 299th Sept '99 - Motorbike riding has become an integral part of the curriculum of the midwifery training schools in the country.

This is to enable graduates of the midwifery training schools reach out to the deprived areas previously uncovered on the field.

Dr Kyei Faried, Sekyere West district director of health services said in a speech to close a seven-day training in motor-bike riding organised for first year students of the Mampong midwifery training school at Asante-Mampong.

The programme to be run in four phases each year, will target other health workers including diseases control officers and medical assistants.

The training programme was jointly funded by the Sekyere West district dministration and the government.

Dr Faried disclosed that Mampong has been selected as the Ashanti region motor-bike training centre for nurses.

He said DANIDA, a Danish non-governmental organisation has donated five motor-bikes to the district for the exercise.

Mr Micheal Dodze, information and education co-ordinator of the Ministry of Health, said students of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi will take their turn during the second phase of the programme at Mampong.
