Ghana’s veterinary officers have culled over 35,000 birds as they handle the suspected case of bird flu at Kpone in the Greater Accra region.

Hundreds of birds have already been culled at poultry farms at Achimota and McCarthy Hill.

Veterinary officers are also restricting movements to the affected farms as they await confirmation of laboratory results from Italy.

Head of Public Health and Food Safety at the Veterinary Service, Dr. Boi Kiki-Moto told the host of Morning Starr, Kafui Dey, on Thursday that the farmers and veterinary officers are on high alert to contain the outbreak.

Mr. Kiki-Moto advised that farmers should not panic when they see their birds suddenly die on their farms.

“Farmers should not let this disease create fear and panic because it is a disease that affects human beings, we are lucky nobody has died in Ghana from it”.
