The Birim Central Municipal Assembly has held a ceremony to reward the best performing revenue collectors of the year.

The maiden event saw Miss Victoria Agyei winning the Overall Best Permanent Revenue Collector and she took home a refrigerator and citation.

Mr Augustine Anim, a permanent revenue collector, won the second place and went home with a citation, gas cooker and a gas cylinder.

Madam Regina Oppong was adjudged the Third Best Revenue Collector and was given a certificate and half piece of cloth, while Madam Debora Ohenewaa, the Best Commission Revenue Collector, received a citation, a gas cooker and a cylinder.

Mr Frimpong Manso Addo, the Municipal Finance Officer, said the award was instituted to boost the interest of workers in revenue collection, which contributed immensely to the Assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF).

He said in the absence of the IGF, the Common Fund alone could not cater for all development projects in the Municipality and that the award, to be made an annual programme, would help workers to give of their best.

The Assembly’s targeted revenue for the year was GhC1,652,049.00 but GhC1,222,842.94, representing 74 per cent, was achieved, he said.

Speaking on the criteria for the award, he said it looked at zero revenue embezzlement, revenue register update, payment and entries of revenue collected into the revenue cash book, payment of money to the office within 24 hours and the overall audit report.

Ms Victoria Adu, the Birim Central Municipal Chief Executive, advised vendors, shop owners, and drivers among others to be patient with revenue collectors.

Ms Agyei, the Overall Winner, thanked the Municipal Assembly for instituting the award and promised she and the team would continue to work hard to raise more revenue for the Assembly.
